To put it simply: Build a barn. Create a field and plow it yourself. Assign an NPC that you recruited to your village to said barn and assign them as "Field Worker". Your workers can (for their work needs) only interact with the chest of the building they work in, and the chest in the resource and food storage buildings. They can't take stuff from anywhere else, so therefor your barn workers can't access the chest in the farm shed and your seeds are quite safe from them. #2.From what I have noticed it can handle 8x16.
