Contractions with my son came out of nowhere that night, 5 minutes apart to start. That lasted 40 minutes then they were 1 minute apart. I dilated from 4 to fully dilated in an hour. The whole labor was 3.5 hours. At my 38-week appointment on Thursday (38w4d), my OB did a cervical check and was very surprised to see that I was already 80% effaced and 3 cm dilated, considering this is my first baby.
