One of my best games was in the motel located in Muldraugh. It's exposed, but what you'll need to do is build a wall around the parking lot/surrounding grass area out front. Build a gate facing the road to the east (towards the grocery store), so you have access to the road.

You have to go before the world erodes, otherwise the random trees and shit will make using a car impossible; additionally, there's a city's worth of zombies along and near the base itself, very condensed.
