NSZ files are functionally identical to NSP files. Their sole purpose to alert the user that it contains compressed NCZ files. NCZ files can be mixed with NCA files in the same container. As an alternative to this tool NSC_Builder also supports compressing NSP to NSZ, and decompressing NSZ to NSP.

Feb 25, 2024 · Compressing a nsz file to rar or 7z is useless. The compression algorithm of nsz is more efficient than both of them, for the Switch format, at least. You can increase the compression level up to 22 max. It takes longer to compress, but you'll know you can't compress any better. Not all games compress a lot.
