23 posts · Joined 2004. #1 · Sep 22, 2004. I'm trying to date my dad's old (but very reliable) auto 5 20 ga. I can't find the serial number on the Browning website. Its a Belgian, with the number is "0Z" on the first line, then 39XXX on the second on the underside of the receiver. While I'll never let it go, I'm also interested in the value.Jan 25, 2012 · The Remington Model 11 is of the same design but a DIFFERENT SHOTGUN than the Remington made "American Browning A-5" of WW-11. Different guns, different serial ranges. A "B" prefix means 12 gauge in a Remington A-5. The "American Browning" is collectible and the solid rib is very desirable, but the Poly Choke ruined it. Your serial number prefix "68Z" indicates a Light 20, NOT a Magnum 20. As for value, that's a crapshoot. More information and some additional good quality pictures would help in that quest. I believe that the Light 20 is highly desirable, much more so than the ubiquitous Light Twelve or Magnum Twelve and would command a premium price. Good luck.PhilipMarcAssad. To my understanding, the letter "V" represents a Magnum chamber. Check the barrel stamping--if it is chambered for 3" shells, that would seem to be correct. So "7V" would simply indicate an Auto-5 Magnum manufactured in 1967. As far as the rest of the serial number, it's just in consequential order of manufacture.

Based on Browning's Serial number charts the Light Twelve serial numbers ended in 1955 with L 83000 and in 1956 started with a G prefix with a different SN range. What am I missing?
