There is a shift clutch adjustment you can check, (search for service manual) but if that doesn't fix it you will need to crack the case to see what's going on in there. A footshift is more reliable, less to go wrong. PERIOD. The DCT is a good system for an automatic, BUT there are simply more components to break. I think you are wise to avoid the ES machines, simply because you have the added components that can fail without also having the added benefit of auto mode.

With DCT you really don't have to back off the throttle as one clutch is for the gear you are in and the other clutch is for the gear you are going into (DCT-dual clutch transmission).
