It is a simple thing to use the safety lever instead of the LEM axle while installing the LEM kit and retain the safety. The instructions are nearly identical for installation in the HK45 or HK45c. I did both of mine from these instructions, less than an hour each. The Var 9 detent plate will keep the decocker from being "useless" and prevent the downward motion of the control lever. I need to order and install them in mine.

I would edit the title to prevent further confusion. 'Banned' is a legal technical word indicating that by official decree the state has voted a ban on the Hk45c in particular. California certainly hasn't banned the HK45c. It just hasn't undergone procedural approval *yet* by California to be placed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale.Despite what everybody who's trying to justify their purchase of an XD says, the HK45C is a much better pistol.
