I've sightfished plenty of spooky lagoon reds from a Carolina Skiff and also poled one around for a while. They work just fine. My only gripe was the freeboard, any breeze and we were sailing.

My fiberglass Carolina skiff has a big "lip" on the bow. The bow stop constantly hung up on it. Same thing happened to many CS owners.
