RAB, bikes on a hitch rack, trailers. We have a three week old Outback. Last night was the first time hauling our bikes on the hitch rack. Backing out of a parking space the alarms went off and the auto braking engaged. I googled later and found that the RAB system doesn’t like trailers either, which is the main reason I bought this car. Wow.
Once the RAB is triggered or disabled, it will stay disabled on the screen. If the system was triggered normally (brakes kicked in) then when you put it in drive, the system should reset. If is disabled in drive, it means the RAB has malfunctioned. The other issue is on occasion when we put the Forester in reverse, the light on the info screen for the rear braking doesn't come on, and the dash actually says "RAB Disabled". It doesn't go away until the car is driven for a bit or turned off. Putting it back into park the into reverse again, etc doesn't fix it. The dealer claims it had no codes.

To turn off RAB there are two different icons and for some reason people tend to press the icon than turns off the warning but not the icon that turns off the braking. Notice the side clip spring (has a small rectangular opening dead center of it). There is another one on the other side of the sensor as well. Those spring clips must be pulled out away from the sensor carefully to remove the sensor from the bumper cover.I think this is what you want. If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else. The reverse automatic braking uses ultrasonic sensors in the bumper - try testing it with an empty trash can instead of a person to test it. Supposedly if you go into the cars system settings on the dash under RAB you can turn off the Sonar sensors then the RAB will show as off. That is not happening on my 2019.
