If nothing else, I'd imagine the carbon build-up under the valve cover could be significant by that point.

Honda agreed with me that they should have advised me that the oil leak may damage the alternator, therefore they covered the cost for a new alternator (was a few months outside of the 1 year warranty). I did have to pay for the new spool valve. Cost approx $750 Canadian. Part was $230, plus a few hours labour.

#1 · Nov 16, 2021. My '08 has 223k miles on it and has never had the valves checked/adjusted. I think this is something I would like to try and tackle myself. I also plan to replace the valve cover gasket, plug tube seals, etc. Probably will replace the spark plugs as well. I have the FSM and I have watched quite a few YouTube videos.

Figure ~4hrs tops to do this if you’re taking your time. I could probably do it in two hours as I’ve done a couple Honda valve jobs.

If a valve gets tight you are going to burn it (basically a hole will form) and cause some expensive repairs to remove the cylinder head and install new valve(s).
